Blossom Edugroup’s 2011 ‘Best Staff Award’ went to Teacher Jasline of Blossom Creative Centre!

Teacher Jasline possesses a cherry disposition and is a diligent worker who cooperates well with colleagues and management and often lends a hand to everyone. Besides having a good teacher-child relationship, she has also developed great rapport with parents, regularly updating parents of their children’s progress and development. She also does not hesitate to help the teachers in other ways other than assisting the class and be a hands-on contributor to the well-being of the children in our centre.

A fantastic assistant teacher, she has proven to be an asset in whichever class she helps assist. A firm educator who is experienced in assisting the main teacher in class management, she is able to train our younger children in self-help skills and assist the teacher in helping the form teachers deal with behavioural issues in class. Using her initiative to engage the children in music and movement, she is also a wonderful teacher who dotes on all the children and is excellent in adjusting new children. The children in her classes love her very much and so do all their parents!

Congratulations Teacher Geetha! We wish you many more happy years working at Blossom!

A worthy recipient for the Best Staff Award 2011, we would like to take this opportunity to wholeheartedly thank Teacher Jasline for her immeasurable dedication and commitment to Blossom and to the children and parents of Blossom Creative Centre!

Next up, we also took the opportunity to honour the only receipient of 2011 Blossom Edugroup’s ‘Long Service Award’! This award went to Teacher Geetha of Blossom Creative Centre! A hearty congratulations and a big thank you for her hard work and dedication towards the children and our organisation through the years!

The management would like to wish Teacher Jasline & Teacher Geetha many many more happy years of working with Blossom!

English Creative Writing

At Blossom, activities we do in the English Creative Writing curriculum aim to enhance children’s thinking processes and stimulate their emergent writing skills. One of the key areas we cover in the Creative Writing curriculum across levels is, ‘Storytelling Techniques.’ With the wonderful selection of stories introduced during the English Creative Writing lesson, children learn to identify various aspects of writing and creating a story. From writing a simple invitation to eventually progressing to writing their own short storie. The English Creative Writing curriculum takes children through a gradual journey confidence building and age-appropriate creativing writing learning objectives from Nursery 2 to Kindergarten 2.

Teacher Maya introduces the story of 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar', while the children listen on eagerly.

One of the key areas we focus on in the English Creative writing curriculum across the 3 levels, is ‘Storytelling Techniques.’ Here, children will be taught to look at stories from different points of view, explore various styles of creating a story and try changing plots of stories to their imaginations. By going through these processes, children gradually learn to broaden their minds and learn to think out of the box. Storytelling does not rely on storybooks alone, it includes songs, rhymes and poetry, all of which help to develop children’s vocal and verbal prowess and build their little confidence to do presentations and recitals in front of an audience.

Creative Writing has also proven to be an emotional outlet for young children as they transfer their inner-most thoughts and feelings through writing and role-playing.Some other main objectives of Blossom’s English Creative Writing curriculum are to foster creative expression in children by getting them to contribute ideas without hesitation, to stimulate their thinking by encouraging them to look at the world in a different way and deriving solutions for problems in an unique way. At the end of the day, we aim to scaffold individual child’s learning through age-appropriate activities and to guide the child to acquire writing skills through their journey from Nursery 2 to Kindergarten 2.

跟着脚印跳，跳，跳

跳，跳，跳，让我们一起跳去小兔子的家吧！

花萌教育很注重幼儿的身心全面发展，使幼儿能健健康康、快快乐乐地茁壮成长。其中幼儿健康最重要的就是体能的锻炼，所以体育课就起到了很重要的作用。老师在上体育课时也要注重幼儿全面的体能发展。

这是N1的小朋友在上体育课，这一节课的目标是让幼儿学习向某一个目标跳跃。老师先将各种颜色的小脚印铺在地上，然后放上呼拉圈设计成一条特殊、美丽的小路，小路的尽头是小兔子的家。老师问小朋友：“你们看前面是谁的家呀?”小朋友回答说：“是小兔子的家！”老师又问：“你们想不想去小兔子的家看看？” 小朋友们高兴地说：“要，要！”老师又说：“我们要沿着脚印，跳着去小兔子的家。”于是老师先示范，沿着脚印往小兔子家的方向一步一步地跳跃。然后小朋友们跟着老师，一个接一个地往前跳！

小朋友们在开心地练习跳跃的动作。

小朋友们跳啊跳啊，开心地跳着：“我跳到小兔子的家了！”，“我也到了！”，小朋友们为自己终于跳到了目的地，而高兴地拍手。老师在一旁也给与小朋友们引导和纠正跳跃的动作，并不停地给他们鼓励和称赞。

在这次的教学活动中，老师有效地把单纯的跳跃动作融入到游戏中，增加了幼儿的兴趣性和参与性，在循序渐进中使幼儿掌握了跳的技能，提高了幼儿的身体平衡能力，使幼儿的大肌肉也得到了很好的发展。

Of Aeroplanes & Occupations @ Changi Airport

"Let's take a look at the various features of Changi Airport, K1s!" says Teacher Jet

Blossom Creative Centre’s children and teachers headed to Changi Airport Terminal 3 to learn more about ‘Community Helpers’ as part of our June school holiday program. The children explored the airport and were introduced to the various occupations that can be found at the airport eg: pilots, flight attendants passenger service agents and other airport staff work. Some of airport ground staff even spoke to the children and introduced various parts about their jobs as the teachers guided the children in understanding the display monitors which informs people of flight arrival and departure timings. The children were amazed when informed of the estimated number of people passing by the airport each day!

The teachers also took this valuable opportunity to fill the children in on the nature of the various community helpers’ jobs and introduced all the facilities that can be found at the airport. The children were amazed when informed of the estimated number of people passing by the airport each day!Besides the fun experience riding the sky train to terminal 2 and back to terminal 3. The children were super excited to have an aerial view of Changi Airport’s surrounds, including the control tower.

After the train ride, we went to the viewing gallery where they got to see the aeroplanes moving and preparation for their next flight. We even managed to catch a glimpse of an aeroplane landing! Through the many information panels at the viewing gallery, the children acquired a lot of information about the Changi Airport such as its origin, how it was started and who were the people behind it. We also saw miniature models of different kinds of aeroplanes used at the airport and only wished we could take one home! We also learnt that these aeroplanes not only transport people to different places, but also animals and how they are being transported.

To sum up an enjoyable and meaningful excursion, the children went to the activity corner where they enjoyed colouring pictures of the airport and different aircrafts, completing some puzzles and playing at the playground. It was indeed a long but meaningful day for the children!

We’re Going to the Zoo, Zoo, Zoo!

"Welcome to the enthralling world of primates, children!"

It was a bright sunny morning as everyone looked forward to learning something new about animals at the Singapore Zoo! The zoo is the best place to bring the children this term as our Thematic Learning theme was on “The Animal Kingdom”. A lively and interactive place, the children will have an opportunity to discover new facts and experience how animals live and interact with one another in their habitats.

The day started with the K1 and K2 children having a meet and greet session with the charmingly clever primates. Here, they learnt to differentiate the various species of monkeys and identified the special characteristics of some of the monkeys .

The highlight of the day was when the children went to the Hamadryas Baboon enclosure, where they got up close and personal with the playful creatures. The children and teachers were amused when some curious baboons came really close to the glass screen and were only too happy to pose for pictures!

That wasn’t the end of the fun adventure for the kids as the zoo keeper then led the group down to an open area to feed the baboons! He taught the children how to throw the fruits far out into the enclosure and very soon, as the saying “Monkey see, monkey do”, goes, our children followed his actions pretty well! The baboons had as much fun competing with one another to get the food, as the children had, feeding them.

"Now, let's look at the different kinds of skin coverings for sea creatures."

On the other side of the zoo trail, the PG, N1 and N2 children tottering off to learn more about friendly sea creatures. During a close-up session, they took a closer look at the special body functions of creatures that enable them to live under the sea. The zoo keeper even brought out a life-sized specimen of a polar bear foot. The sheer size of it drew loud gasps of amazement from the children all around! Indeed, the children were intrigued and amazed by the impressive size of a bear’s foot!

Next up, magnificent sea creatures entertained the children for a ‘Splash Safari’ show! The children loved every minute of it as they sat mesmerized by the charismatic and talented animals! It was an experience of a lifetime for all of us, young and old. After all, we don’t get to feed a monkey everyday, do we? The children were disappointed to have to bid farewell to the animals and our friendly zoo keepers. But we all know that this will not be the last visit to the zoo as before you know it, we’ll all be headed right back to learn new facts on these precious and fascinating creatures again!

儿童节，真快乐！

吹一吹，找一找。

儿童节是小朋友们感到最幸福最快乐的节日。在这洋溢着幸福，充满着喜悦的日子里，老师祝所有的小朋友们节日快乐！儿童节前夕，花萌启发中心变成了一片欢乐的海洋，全体的老师和小朋友一起为庆祝节日的到来，展开了一系列的庆祝活动，活动场面热闹非凡，节目精彩纷呈。

在分组游戏中，K2小朋友进行的是游戏“吹面寻宝”，大家使出了吃奶的力气，拼命地吹呀，找呀……K1小朋友的“打排球”活动也在紧张而愉快的气氛中进行，看他们配合密切，你打过来，我推过去，好像两个团队正在进行一场紧张的比赛。

哈哈...鼻子贴到耳朵上去啰！

最有趣的还是N2的“贴鼻子”活动，润智小朋友蒙着眼睛，转一圈，拿着“鼻子”一边摸索一边往前走，刚把“鼻子”贴好，就听到小朋友们一连串的笑声，原来他把“鼻子”贴到耳朵上了，真滑稽!

加油，我一定能越过去！

接下来是活动“越过障碍”，N2的小朋友们勇敢地越过障碍物，最后都到达了终点，大家开心地跳啊，笑啊……

庆祝儿童节的活动在愉快的气氛中结束了，但孩子们的笑声还一直在校园里荡漾。

欢欢喜喜过中秋

老师给幼儿讲述有关中秋节的故事

中秋佳节又要来到了！为了让孩子们更加了解这个传统的节日，感受中秋节美满团圆的快乐气氛，我们托儿所开展了丰富多彩的庆祝活动。

猜一猜，谜底是什么？

中午，老师们就把托儿所装扮得很漂亮：挂起了灯笼、张贴起了谜语、还有幼儿自己做的手工“灯笼”，使我们的校园内一下子就有了浓厚的节日气氛。

到了晚上8:30分，家长带着幼儿陆陆续续来到了托儿所，我们的庆祝活动开始了。首先，老师给大家讲述了有关中秋节的传说故事“嫦娥奔月”，介绍了有关中秋节的食品和习俗；然后老师带领家长及幼儿一起外出提灯笼。

回来托儿所以后，大家在一起品尝月饼、吃柚子，喝中国茶，很多家长还和幼儿一起兴致勃勃地参加了猜谜语活动。当他们猜中了，拿到奖品时，一个个脸上都露出了开心的笑容。在柔和的月色下，大家一起共同感受节日所带来的温馨和快乐。

在此，花萌所有的老师，也给大家送去我们的祝福：祝愿所有的家庭和谐幸福！孩子们快乐成长！

快乐迎接教师节

哈......我终于抢到椅子了！

教师节快到了！为了增进师生之间的感情，感谢老师的辛勤付出，花萌启发中心的全体师生们聚集在一起，在热热闹闹的气氛中，进行了庆祝教师节的活动。

在活动开始，老师们先做了“传饼干”的游戏，大家分成两组，一个个紧张地用嘴巴传递着小饼干；在“抢椅子”的游戏中，老师们争先恐后的动作及表情，让幼儿们情不自禁地一起为老师喊“加油！加油！”。

接下来，是老师和幼儿联合进行的游戏比赛“排球”，师生之间配合非常默契，双方将球排过来排过去，气氛既紧张又活跃。最后进行的游戏是“踩气球”，幼儿们围着老师转来转去，争着去踩绑在老师脚上的气球，大家一边踩，一边跳，随着师生们一连串的尖叫声和笑声，将整个庆祝活动推向了高潮，大家沉浸在无比欢乐的气氛当中。

小心！准备接球！

通过这一次的庆祝教师节活动，不仅给老师献上了一份特别的节日礼物，也为幼儿提供了一个与老师合作的平台，同时也增进了师生之间彼此的感情。

Delicious Desserts for Dear Daddy!

All prepped and ready to take in instructions from the trainer to start baking!

To celebrate Father’s Day, Blossom Creative collaborated with ‘Cookie Monzter’ to whip up a personal, baked from scratch themed surprise for daddies, titled “My Daddy’s Car!” As research has shown that fathers play an important role in a child’s personal development and proactive fathers bring about a positive impact on a child’s success story in life, our school jumped at the opportunity to organise a parent-child activity and was delighted to invite the men of the houses to roll up their sleeves and join in the fun baking and decorating muffins with their little ones…

With flour and baking materials strewn all over the table tops, it was a messy but very productive baking day in school. Coupled with all the daddies who took time-off from work to give support to their little aspiring baking chefs, Blossom Creative transformed into a mini bakery churning out tantalising muffin after muffin! The most endearing part was watching the daddies put in their best effort in assisting their child/children perfect the art of baking!

Many parents expressed their appreciation to the school for taking the initiative to plan this activity where busy daddies could spend quality time with their children out of their own homes and in the school, a home away from home. And needless to say, we teachers, together with the kids and daddies, all had a jolly good time baking and decorating the muffins together! A BIG hug to all parents who made time to participate in this activity with your precious lil’ ones!

Who Ate the Cookies?

Chocolate ones, butterscotch ones, raisin ones, peanut ones: we’re spoilt for choice when it comes to cookies! They are a favourite of people of all ages, especially with children! As part of our June Holiday theme on ‘Food’, the children baked and decorated their own cookies and doughnuts! With the help from the experts at ‘Genius R Us’ , we proved that kids can indeed bake! Clad in mini aprons, our little bakers got busy!

They measured, sifted and whipped like professionals! The outcome? Mouth watering, sweet smelling, golden brown morsels that the children were only too happy to decorate with colourful icing and yummy toppings. After the final touches, the yummy treats looked too good to eat, yet hard to resist at the same time! Our young Playgroup and Nursery tots wasted no time in gobbling up some of the cookies and only just managed to save the rest for home!

On the other side of the premise where the Kindergarten children were, the kids had a wild time learning to bake doughnuts! Having only eaten the yummy bread all ready made, the children found it really interesting to learn how they are actually made. Better yet, rather than making the usual round doughnuts with a hole in the middle, the trainers at ‘Genius R Us’ got the children to create their own shapes! After pounding, turning, twisting and shaping the dough, doughnuts of all shapes and sizes appeared!

The puffy bread brought about a buzz of excitement as they came out of the oven, the children were eagarly waiting to move on to the fun part, decorating the doughnuts! The doughnuts were dipped into melted chocolate and painstakingly decorated with a variety of toppings like fruit loops, cornflakes, icing sugar and chocolate chip! Like the little ones, these children could not resist popping one or two doughnuts into their mouths as they worked. Suddenly the place turned into a sticky-chewy doughnut party

At the end of the day, the children’s delicious creations were packed into little take home boxes to bring home. No one could deny that there was a better way to learn about ‘Food’ than to get hands-on at it! It certainly was a lip-smacking experience for the children and the teachers!
