Way to go Aunty Foo!

The Blossom Edugroup 2010 ‘Best Staff Award’ went to Aunty Foo Kwee of Blossom Creative Centre! Aunty Foo undoubtedly deserves Blossom’s best staff award as her good working attitude can be witnessed and is often admired by all the teachers and the management of Blossom.  She goes about quietly getting her job done conscientiously, takes great pride in her work and carries out her duties without hesitation.

A hardworking individual, she is very thorough in her cleaning duties and does not need to be reminded to carry out her assigned duties well. With her positive work attitude, she has definitely brought the standard of our centre’s health and hygiene up. Possessing a cheery disposition, she also does not hesitate to help the teachers in assisting their classes and be a hands-on contributor to the well-being of the children in our centre.

A worthy recipient for the Best Staff Award 2010, we would like to take this opportunity to wholeheartedly thank Aunty Foo for her immeasurable dedication and commitment to Blossom! The management would like to wish her many many more happy years of working with Blossom!

Blossom Berrykidz celebrated Singapore 45th Birthday with a whole host of activities lined up for the day.  To start off this memorable and meaningful day, Miss May had a storytelling session, giving the children a glimpse into the history of Singapore as she described and showed photos of olden day Singapore. After the storytelling session, we went on to sing the National Anthem and recited the Pledge in one harmonious voice.

"Let's wave our flags high up in the air!"

Our spirits were further lifted and everyone got into a celebratory mood as we sang and waved our flags wildly to our all-time favourite Singapore songs like ‘Count On Me, Singapore’, ‘Chan Mali Chan’ and ‘We are Singapore’.

Next up in the programme, the children had the opportunity to showcase their creativity by showing off their beautifully decorated flags in line with this year’s National Day theme – “Live Our Dreams, Fly Our Flag”. The children proudly paraded their artworks of various flags and banners that they designed and decorated in class as the teachers made their choice for the ‘Best Flag Design’ competition.  Not only did the littles ones get to exercise their creative juices, they were also able to learn about the value of friendly competition!

“小树，小树，快快长大吧！”

Children love water play, all sorts of water play! And for the children, turning a lesson on ’Water’  into hands-on, play time is always welcomed with open arms! This term, Mdm Chen gave the children an opportunity to learn all about water. Through fun and entertaining mini experiments, exploration and class discussions, Mdm Chen facilitated the children to learn about our water sources and many important uses of water.

"朋友，让我们一起玩吧!"

The children thoroughly enjoyed the processes Mdm Chen took them through as they explored the world of water and the ways in which they can conserve it! As always, the inquisitive children asked plenty of questions, eager to learn more and everything they need to know about water.

玩水是小朋友最喜欢玩的活动之一。今天，老师为小朋友准备了玩水的工具，让小朋友们在一起玩水。有的小朋友用水给小树和小草浇水，有的小朋友玩水枪大战，还有的小朋友用水在地上画画。玩水给小朋友们带来了快乐！

"我们一起加油，团结就是力量”

“停水了？那我们就不能洗手洗水果，不能冲厕所，连喝水都得省着，这可怎么办？没有水的生活真是太不方便了……”在我们设置的停水情境中，孩子们叽叽喳喳议论开了，他们体会到了原来没有水的生活是那么的困难，很多事情都做不了。

“我们是未来的科学家”

课堂上，孩子们通过讨论，寻找水源，寻找装水的工具，到户外为植物浇水等一系列活动让孩子自己去观察，探究，体验水在我们生活中的用途。从孩子兴高采烈的神情中，从孩子们四处探究水源的认真劲中，从孩子们专注的为植物浇水中，让我们深深感受到孩子们对美好生活的向往，对大自然的热爱。

“这么多东西，到底谁可以在水中溶解呢？”带着许许多多的好奇和疑问，孩子们开始探索了……老师为孩子在学习过程中，提供了许多探索的机会和时间，让孩子充分的发挥主动性，大胆的观察和发现，也让孩子在自己的活动中验证自己的想法是否正确，感受科学就是生活的一部分，而且是非常有趣的一部分。

这是颖乐小朋友在示范刷牙的步骤。先把牙膏挤在牙刷上，然后再上下里外刷牙，最后再用水漱口。这样才能保持自己的牙齿洁白健康。

It’s never too early to start paying attention to your child’s oral health. Preschool allows children the opportunity to practice brushing while providing activities and lessons that focus on dental health.

图乐小朋友就通过学习来示范正确的清洗牙具步骤：首先要把牙杯和牙刷洗干净，然后在把牙膏盖好并把它们一起放进牙杯里，等到下次再使用。

Miss Gao took the children through the desired steps for oral hygiene practice by reinforcing a routine for daily tooth brushing.
She also carried out a demonstration of  proper toothbrushing focusing on three surfaces of each tooth to be cleaned – the outer, inner and chewing surfaces. She stressed to the children to be systematic so as to ensure that all teeth are cleaned well. 

Through this activity, children learnt and understood that brushing their teeth twice a day is not only important but also helps to maintain oral hygiene and prevent tooth decay!

这是K1的生活技能课，教幼儿如何正确的刷牙。老师先给幼儿示范刷牙的步骤：

通过启彬小朋友的示范, 让幼儿了解漱口是为了让残留在口腔内的细小食物，从牙缝里被冲洗出来。

1. 前牙、后牙外侧 — 握住牙刷，使其与牙齿成45度角，从牙龈线开始，轻柔地、小幅度地来回刷牙。

2. 后牙内侧 — 刷牙幅度要小、刷牙动作形成一定弯度。

3. 前牙内侧 — 保持牙刷与牙齿垂直，用牙刷头上下刷。

4. 咀嚼面 — 平握牙刷，轻柔地刷牙。

小朋友们跟着老师所示范的步骤，非常有兴趣的练习，并学习掌握正确的刷牙方法。

老师也给幼儿讲解保护牙齿的重要性，并通过提问的方式，让他们加强认识蛀牙的原因。有些幼儿说不可以吃太多的糖，巧克力和饼干，如果吃完后，没有刷牙的话，牙齿会坏掉，会很疼。所以吃完东西后，要及时刷牙。老师还教幼儿饭后如何漱口，清洁口腔。

保护牙齿，要从小做起，每天养成饭后刷牙的好习惯，这样我们的牙齿才会清洁，又很健康。

Let's listen closely to the trainer as she demonstrates the steps for preparing the muffin batter.

Here come the professionals from Cookie Monzter, equipped with aprons, chef’s hats, whisks, metal bowls, plastic spoons, syringes and more! Cookie Monzter arrived at Blossom Berrykidz to bring  culinary baking lessons right up to our door steps! 

Soon enough, together with our parents and teachers, the children busied themselves measuring and sifting, mixing and whisking together! Through this baking session, the children picked up valuable life skills while having loads of fun. They patiently went through the entire process of  breaking an egg to forming a batter and later to decorate the entire baked muffin.

For most of them, it was their first hands-on exploration on simple everyday life skills things like breaking an egg , sifting flour and stirring a batter. Although it was a messy process, the experience the children went through was certainly something special and unforgettable!

Some of our parents also shared that it was fantastic idea to allow the  children to have a taste of baking from scratch and exercising their imagination to decorate!  At the end of the tiring but fruitful day, the children were delighted as they brought home a  beautifully decorated muffin.

The children also received a photo certificate for successfully baking and decorating their very own  muffin! Once again,  a BIG thank you to all the parents and grandparents who took the time to join Berrykidz and little ones in this baking workshop!

All prepped and ready to take in instructions from the trainer to start baking!

To celebrate Father’s Day, Blossom Creative  collaborated with ‘Cookie Monzter’ to whip up a personal, baked from scratch themed surprise for daddies, titled “My Daddy’s Car!”  As research has shown that fathers play an important role in a child’s personal development and proactive fathers bring about a positive impact on a child’s success story in life, our school jumped at the opportunity to organise a parent-child activity and was delighted to invite the men of the houses to roll up their sleeves and join in the fun baking and decorating muffins with their little ones…

With flour and baking materials strewn all over the table tops, it was a messy but very productive baking day in school. Coupled with all the daddies who took time-off from work to give support to their little aspiring baking chefs, Blossom Creative transformed into a mini bakery churning out tantalising muffin after muffin! The most endearing part was watching the daddies put in their best effort in assisting their child/children perfect the art of baking!  

Many parents expressed their appreciation to the school for taking the initiative to plan this activity where busy daddies could spend quality time with their children out of their own homes and in the school, a home away from home. And needless to say, we teachers, together with the kids and daddies, all had a jolly good time baking and decorating the muffins together! A BIG hug to all parents who made time to participate in this activity with your precious lil’ ones!

The classroom is the first community that many children belong to outside of their family. In many ways, it is a microcosm of the larger community and by learning to function as a part of the classroom community, children can then take these same skills and apply them to the larger community.

As such, we are honoured to work hand in hand with our friendly neighbourhood library by inviting a librarian over to Blossom Discovery Centre to be our storyteller for a day!  Let the storyteller engage your child, weave a web of enchantment and transport your child from their everyday world into the world of imagination and fantasy!

All children between the ages of 4-6 are welcome!

Harish hard at work, decorating his cookie meticulously.

Chocolate ones, butterscotch ones, raisin ones, peanut ones: we’re spoilt  for choice when it comes to cookies!  They are a favourite of people of all ages, especially with children!  As part of  our June Holiday theme on ‘Food’, the children baked and decorated their own cookies and doughnuts! With the help from the experts at  ‘Genius R Us’ , we proved that kids can indeed bake! Clad in mini aprons, our little bakers got busy!

They measured, sifted and whipped like professionals! The outcome? Mouth watering,  sweet smelling, golden brown morsels that the children were only too happy to decorate with colourful icing and yummy toppings.  After the final touches, the yummy treats looked too good to eat, yet hard to resist at the same time! Our young Playgroup and Nursery tots wasted no time in gobbling up some of the cookies and only just managed to save the rest for home!

On the other side of the premise where the Kindergarten children were, the kids had a wild time learning to bake doughnuts! Having only eaten the yummy bread all ready made, the children found it really interesting to learn how they are actually made. Better yet, rather than making the usual round doughnuts with a hole in the middle, the trainers at ‘Genius R Us’ got the children to create their own shapes!  After pounding, turning, twisting and shaping the dough, doughnuts of all shapes and sizes appeared!

The puffy bread brought about a buzz of excitement as they came out of the oven, the children were eagarly waiting to move on to the fun part, decorating the doughnuts! The doughnuts were dipped into melted chocolate and painstakingly decorated with a variety of toppings like fruit loops, cornflakes, icing sugar and chocolate chip! Like the little ones, these children could not resist popping one or two doughnuts into their mouths as they worked. Suddenly the place turned into a sticky-chewy doughnut party

At the end of the day, the children’s delicious creations were packed into little take home boxes to bring home. No one could deny that there was a better way to learn about ‘Food’ than to get hands-on at it! It certainly was a lip-smacking experience for the children and the teachers!

Let's all fan the rice to cool it down for rolling!

The Playgroup had a go at cooling down the rice before rolling them with seaweed on the bamboo mats.

Yes, you read it right! We made Sushi! And all this was made possible, thanks to Mrs Yoshiko Howells, mummy of Erika Howells from the Playgroup class! Mrs Howells demonstrated the art of sushi making with much  patience and enthusiasm and ensured that all children got a chance to try their hand at rolling the rice and seaweed.
