Teachers and children of Blossom Discovery Centre celebrated the country’s birthday on 7 Aug 2013 with a host of activities organised for our children.
We had a sing-a-long session of a few popular National theme songs while the K2 children presented a story about the legend of Singapura, “The Birth of Lion City”. With the use of pictures, props and a narrator, the younger children and the teachers were captivated with the re-enactment. After the story-telling session, the K2 children ended their performance with an all time favourite, ‘Singapura, Oh, Singapura’.
In line with this year’s National Day theme, ‘Many Stories….One Singapore’ , our children from PG to K2 also participated in a patchwork national flag craft activity. Children and parents drew on fabric some familiar sights, landmarks and symbols representing Singapore eg: Merlion, Singapore Flyer etc. The pieces of patchwork collected were sewn together to form our very own National Flag. This idea was inspired by one of Singapore’s heart warming and encouraging story called the ‘Fabric of the Nation (FOTN)’ in the year 2003.
After singing the National Anthem and reciting the National Pledge, the children were delighted and cheered excitedly when a cake cutting ceremony was announced.A special thank you to Teacher Yvonne who baked a National Day cake for all of us to enjoy! The children were overjoyed singing aloud ‘Happy Birthday‘ and cutting the cake together.
The celebration continued for each class with some fun games and story telling about Singapore shared by the Kindergartens. It was truly a fun and an enjoyable day for all who participated in the celebration.
Happy 48th Birthday Singapore!
