June Excursion to Bollywood Veggies

Posted on 28 June 2010 | Blossom Berrykidz, Excursions

It was an exciting day for the children at Blossom Berrykidz as their long awaited excursion finally arrived!

Once again, they got to learn outside of the boundaries of their classrooms, in the wide open space of 10 acres of land at Bollywood Veggies, an organic fruit and vegetable farm.

The light drizzle that day did not dampen our spirits as we journeyed to the farm, accompanied by a warm welcome by two of Bollywood Veggies’ guides who were ready to take us on a tour around the farm to learn all about fruits and vegetables.BBCLunch

The guide introduced the children to the  many special varieties of fruits or vegetables that are grown on the farm, their names, characteristics and uses.

For example: She showed the children and teachers one of the uses of  the Aloe Vera plant. Its sap can be used to ease the itch of mosquito bites.

The children enjoyed their lunch of spaghetti and nuggets. The iced milo and fig juice was very thirst quenching after a long walk under the sun. It certainly was pleasant having greenery all around us as we sat down to lunch that day! Everyone had a wonderful appetite before heading back to the centre.
