This is how I cut the hair section by section
Blossom Aspiration Centre’s children were honoured to receive a special treat to a close-up experience with a professional hairstylist. “Snip, snip, snip!” They were intrigued by the nifty movements performed by the cool hairstylist. As he demonstrated his skills, he shared the nature of his passion. For example, his working environment, tools and steps taken to serve his customers.
Our children participated eagerly in the demonstration by helping him to pick up the comb, water spray can and hair gel. Some of the boys even got a chance to style their hair with glittering hair gel. Everyone laughed heartily at their friends who were transformed into ‘rock stars’ within minutes.

Colourful wigs to pin onto the hair
As the session progresses, the children were able to interact comfortably with the hairstylist. They stared wide-eye at the professional as he answered their questions in detail. They were very amazed at the response of the hairdresser, especially when he said that he worked for long hours every day to train aspiring new hairstylists and style customers’ hair.

Do you like it long or short? Do you like it pink or purple?
The next activity definitely warm up the children’s learning spirits! They were excited about the pretence play with toy tools. Guided by the teachers, the children followed step by step to serve their ‘customers’. They really took it with great pride and discipline! Nothing beats doing the ‘job’ personally to experience the hardship.
Giving more scope to the understanding of different occupations, the children were prompted to compare the hairstylist job with that of a policeman. The children appreciated the role and importance of different professions in our daily lives.
Many thanks to our parent volunteers, Roy and Charlene, our children had great time learning about the world beyond the classroom.
Never belittle the power of exposure!
